PLI Webcast
Byline

Joining the Practising Law Institute full-time, I had a chance to take everything I ever learned about traditional media at Pop-Up Video, and apply it to the growing realm of streaming video. However, being a non-profit, I also wore the hat of UI Designer. It's in this role that I approached a pretty volatile topic popular with our users: 1) The video we were broadcasting was at 320x240, yet only being displayed at half that size; 2) For as long as the organization was streaming video content, complaints about the interface were very common.

In late 2004, the powers that be decided enough was enough and approached the massive undertaking that was completely reworking our live webcast/on-demand interface. I acted as the lead designer, and assisted with the HTML coding. The code to our backend was done by the lead web developer. The biggest upgrade outside of the UI came in the form of live, synced PowerPoint slides. They appear to the right of the video.

When we were finished complaints were down, praise for the new design was up, and being a non-profit about all we got was a big pat on the back. But hey, what're you gonna do?
